Csima set up a new track record in Brigg

This year’s Quadrathlon race in Brigg was organised 1 week later than usual. At the same weekend Koberbachtal was organising also a middle-distance race so most racers had to decide which race to participate. Perhaps because of this the starting field was lower in both locations. Despite on this the excellent organisation of Jeff and Dona Chappill and of course the many volunteers was a guaranteed again. They even succeeded to turn the Saturdays rainy and windy weather to sunshine and mild conditions in Sunday. This years race in Brigg was also a European Championship. As usual the quadrathletes started together with triathletes. There was also a sprint distance possible besides middle distance. The water in river Ancholme was quite fresh as usual. The best swimmers came out of the water (incl transition) after 23 minutes. Ferenc Csima (HUN) and Leoš Roušavý (CZE) broke away from the rest of the field on the bike course. Both were very fast with their brand-new bikes. Even the best triathletes got 2 minutes difference behind them. In the kayak leg the difference between the 2 leaders increased to 8 minutes, and it was also remaining on the running part. Finally, Csima won the race with a new track record of 2:28:23 (more than 1 and a half minute better than the earlier track record was). Roušavý finished on the 2nd and the young Erik Meilak on the 3rd place, with excellent kayaking time. In the women’s race Rose Durrant thanks to her excellent swimming and kayaking performance won the race with clear distance to Hermione Ball.
The next race in Brigg will be organised in autumn (6th Sept) on sprint distance.
