At the start of July, I’ll be taking on the Deva

At the start of July, I’ll be taking on the Deva Diva Quadrathlon: a 750m open water swim, 4km kayak, 25km road cycle, and 5km run. Kayaking is the only part I feel remotely comfortable with.

When a friend from my kayak club asked if I wanted to join a group of women doing this challenge, my first reaction was horror! I hadn’t swum front crawl in around 20 years, had never properly swum in a river (beyond the occasional dip on a sunny day), I'm terrified of bikes (especially on roads), and I don’t enjoy running (not helped by hip issues).

But I’ve spent many years volunteering and working with Adventure Queens, a not-for-profit organisation that supports women to get outdoors, try new things, and push beyond their comfort zones. I basically couldn't say no - this challenge represents exactly what Adventure Queens is all about.

Over the past few months, I’ve been gradually preparing: starting swimming lessons, following a Couch to 5K running plan, and recently getting back on my bike for the first time in years.

I’d really love your support to help me raise £750 for Adventure Queens. Donations will help fund the running of the organisation and enable us to continue supporting women to access the outdoors. In particular, your contributions help us reach women who face additional barriers, including through subsidised places at our campouts and targeted projects. Past initiatives have included skills residentials with refugee women, support for domestic violence survivors, programmes for women returning to hiking after injury or long-term health conditions, and walks specifically for women experiencing anxiety.

Adventure Queens exists to make the outdoors more accessible and inclusive for women. Your donation will help us continue that work.

Die Konkurrenz war stark, die Bedingungen anspruchsvoll — umso glücklicher sind wir über diesen Titel.
Dazu Sonnenschein, eine Top organisierte Veranstaltung, ein großartiger Veranstalter und viele starke Sportlerinnen und Sportler. Insgesamt gingen rund 90 Teilnehmer im Einzel- und Teamwettkampf an den Start.
Was für ein gelungenes Wochenende.
